Tutor Don Braybrook of the Bamboo Academy

Don Braybrook during an event at Patchings Art Centre

Having painted all my life in many countries and in many mediums and styles, coming into Chinese Painting only recently, the difference in style, understanding and concept were quite marked.

The style in traditional Chinese Landscape Painting is more to do with spirit and freedom of expression, colour being usually confined to three colours: Indigo, Burnt Sienna and Mineral Green. So taking care to express the tenants laid down centuries ago is challenging.

Understanding Chineese history of painting is essential to capture all the elements of Chi 'Spirit' concept and influence of the past.

All this combined with the magical brushes, paper and ink gives one a unique opportunity to be absorbed in the fascinating art form.

Come and share with me all the treasures, joy and peace this ancient art can give when taught slowly and effectively by good tuition.

You can see some of my work in the Chinese Painting Gallery.
